INCLUDES FLIGHT, HOTEL & MORE in Greece
A trip to Greece means you'll never be short of things to see and experience. For a holiday where relaxation and history is intertwined, the islands are calling your name. On Crete, the mythical birthplace of the Greek god, Zeus, you can visit one of Europe's oldest cities, Knossos. Best visited in the morning to avoid the bustling crowds, it's a site like no other. Away from the more notorious tourist destinations of Rhodes, Santorini and Corfu, lesser known islands like romantic Symi or Skopelos also represent great places to visit. While on the islands, take a dip in the Aegean Sea, soak up the sun on award-winning beaches, and enjoy the sound of lapping waves as a backdrop for scenic dinners with your loved ones.
Alternatively, trips to Athens allow you to experience an ancient metropolis dripping with history. With its vibrant, quaint markets and world-famous archaeological sites, it's a destination that could keep visitors on their feet for weeks on end. To mention a few landmarks, the Parthenon at Acropolis is simply incomparable. Built in 447 BC this structure is still standing today. Additionally, the Temple of Zeus is also a great place to visit for anyone who has an interest in Greek mythology, or is simply just a huge fan of Disney's Hercules. All of this and we haven't even touched on the food yet.
Let's just say that it's a good idea to arrive in Greece with a very healthy appetite. Food is central to Greek culture, and although locals eat at around 9-10 pm they aren't usually in a hurry to leave. For the best food experiences, keep an eye out for the restaurants with a lot of local guests and chatter. While staple dishes like moussaka and souvlaki shouldn't be missed, the Greek take on lasagne, pastitsio, is another must. On Rhodes, sample the local chickpea fritters known as pitaroudia, a local delicacy not to be missed. For the more adventurous eaters, freshly caught octopus soaked in garlic, vinegar and olive oil is a tasty delight. Finally, fresh olives, feta, tzatziki and crisp Greek wine are great companions with any meal you choose.
