The US has always been a welcoming place to people from all over the world, and one of the most multicultural cities is undoubtedly New York City. Home to over 8 million people, the city has an abundance of experiences. On your first visit here take in the central sights like The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and a Broadway-show. If you want to explore the authentic New York, away from Manhattan, then head to Brooklyn and Queens for a great cup of coffee, before going ice-skating among the locals in McCarren Park or catching the New York skyline from Sunset Park.
Once you have soaked up New York's metropolitan atmosphere, there is a multitude of places across America to explore. Go on a historic tour in Boston and have a beer with the locals, before heading south to Miami for a taste of Latin American flavours with its delicious food, colourful drinks and fiery Carnaval. Experience the lights, the shows and the casinos of Las Vegas; have a drink in the Mermaid Bar or take a trip to Rancho Drive for a glimpse of old Las Vegas. If your destination is California then your visit has to include riding an iconic tram up and down the notoriously steep hills of San Francisco, as well as heading further north to take in the glamour of Hollywood and Los Angeles. The second largest American city, it can be a busy and crowded place, so escapes to Zuma Beach or the James Irvine Japanese Garden offer spots of tranquillity in the sea of people.
USA is also famous for its food. No visit is complete without a great American burger or a donut. However, the country is all about global and exciting flavours. In San Francisco, make sure you visit the food trucks in the Presidio next to the Golden Gate Bridge on Thursdays, in Miami try the toston burger with plantains instead of buns, and when in New York grab a salt-beef sandwich or go to town on oysters at the Grand Central Oyster Bar.
The United States is a big place. Within its borders, you can find every kind of terrain, from deserts to tundra, and mountains to the countryside. The people themselves are just as varied as the landscape, as are the cultures of each individual state.
