Day 1. Welcome to Valletta!
Touch down on the amazing island nation of Malta. Off the coast between North Africa and Sicily, Malta is dotted with fantastic beaches, dreamy coastlines, fortresses, megalithic temples, and more!
Transfer to hotel
Check-in - La Falconeria
Unwind in the chic La Falconeria in the Valletta region of Malta. With beautiful views, a subterranean pool, an on-site bar, and a gym the guests are welcome to use. Those staying with the Falconeria have access to the 24-hour front desk and car rentals provided by the hotel.
Rooms are comfortable and stylish, some with views of either the city or the sea. They feature a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a safe, ironing facilities, coffee or tea making facilities, a hair dryer, and private bathrooms complete with toiletries, slippers, and bathrobes.
The National Museum of Fine Arts and the Upper Barrakka Gardens is just 1,300 feet from the hotel, and the Malta International Airport is a little over 3 miles away.
Day 2. Valletta
Use your first full day here as a change to explore the stunning capital city of Valletta— popular for its museums, palaces, and beautiful churches. Remember to bring your camera to capture this city that quite literally glows in the sunlight, radiating warmth and history down every narrow stone street.
Discover the beauty and charm of the fortified city built by the Knights of St. John in 1566 - the capital of Malta, Valletta. The Order of St. John ruled over the islands for 268 years and left a unique cultural legacy of which Valletta is the prime example. Take in the beautiful views over the Grand Harbor from the Upper Barrakka Gardens before heading out to visit St. John's Co-Cathedral. Admire Flemish tapestries, the church museum, Caravaggio masterpieces in the Oratory, and the beautiful marble inlaid floors.
Going down Republic Street, walk past the Grand Master's Palace and the recently restored St. George's Square before enjoying an audio-visual show of Malta's history.
Day 3. Valletta
Ready to embark on an adventure? Grab your walking shoes as you set off see the temples of Malta today! Venture through the centre of the island, where the temples located on the southwestern side. Enjoy the wonders these stops have to offer, from hilltops overlooking the sea to underground complexes used for worship and burials.
The prehistoric temples of Malta are collectively inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, with seven sets of temples in all. On this tour, you will visit the following sites: Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples. These temples are located on a hilltop overlooking the sea in the Southern Part of the island. The temples date back to around 3600 – 3200 BC and are inscribed as part of the “Megalithic Temples of Malta” in the World Heritage List.
Day 4. Valletta
Today's the day you'll get a real special treat. You'll be leaving the main island of Malta for one 21 surrounding islands that make up Malta's archipelago— Gozo. It's here where rural hiking paths run along the country side, Ggantija Temple ruins are strewn about historical sites, beaches that stretch for miles, and scuba-diving can be found at multiple sites.
Take a short, 20-minute ferry ride to Malta's sister island, Gozo - arriving in Mgarr Harbour, which immediately sets the pace for Gozo's unique atmosphere. Your guide will lead you around the Megalithic temples of Ggantija, the oldest free-standing monuments in the world, pre-dating the Pyramids of Egypt. This will be followed by visits to the medieval citadel in Victoria, and the fjord-like bay at Xlendi, and the site where the Azure Window once stood before its collapse at Dwejra. Fans of the wildly popular show, Game of Thrones, will enjoy a tour of the location where the scene of Daenerys and Drogo's wedding was shot in the first season. The area was transformed for the screen by covering the ground in mesh and covering it with sand to create a desert-like environment.
Gozo is well-known for its crafts, particularly handmade lace and knitted garments. You will also be impressed by the island's lush countryside, its serene atmosphere, and how different it is from the larger island of Malta.
Day 5. Valletta
Last day here in Malta, we hope you enjoyed your trip! If you haven't done so already, go out and rent a boat to explore some of the other islands nearby in the archipelago like Comino, which has stunning beaches, or explore the beautiful gardens, museums, and shopping districts to bring a piece of Malta home with you.
