Day 3. São Miguel

Enjoy a thrilling day of discovery with your included full-day Furnas tour!

Full-day Furnas Tour

On this tour we feel and experience the volcanic origins of the Island in Furnas, a magical place. We start by visiting the Caldeiras da Lagoa das Furnas (Furnas Lake Calderas), a place where we cook the famous “cozido das Furnas” (a very special meal cooked only with the steam of the Earth) and continue with a soft walk that crosses a stream and circles the lakeside. During this walk we have the opportunity to appreciate a variety of endemic flora species. Next we visit the town of Furnas, with its fumaroles and hot springs that contain water with different tastes. Then, we visit the centenery Terra Nostra botanical garden that is famous for its extraordinary collection of native plants on the Azores, as well as others from all over the world that have adapted to the local garden conditions. At the end of the visit you are invited to bathe in an iron-rich hot water swimming pool that has a temperature of 35-40ºC, an exquisite experience! On the way back to Ponta Delgada we stop at several beautiful viewpoints on the North Coast and also at the only tea plantation in Europe where we will be able to visit the working tea factory and have a lovely break to taste the tea.

Day 4. São Miguel

Are you ready for another spectacular day? Experience the astounding Sete Cidades today with your included half-day tour!

Jeep Tour to Sete Cidades (half-day)

Prepare for an off-road adventure! On this walk around the crater of Sete Cidades, on the island of S. Miguel, you can see unique views and all the magic of nature. On this half-day trip, you will have the opportunity to see some of the most scenic lakes of São Miguel within the volcanic complex of Sete Cidades. In Sete Cidades you will enjoy the many wonderful views from some of the region’s belvederes (architectural structures sited to take advantage of the scenic views) as well as discover the ancient love story behind the formation of the green and blue lakes. A highlight of this tour is a stop at Ferraria where you can enjoy the unique experience of bathing in hot ocean water within a natural thermal pool that is heated by the forces of nature. After, return to the hotel.

Recommendations: Bring light and comfortable clothing, long-sleeved shirt, waterproof coat, comfortable shoes, bathing suit and towel, hat, sunscreen, backpack and water.

Day 5. São Miguel

Today is your last full day on holiday in São Miguel, so make sure to do everything you wanted! Maybe you're like to treat yourself to a thrilling excursion, or simply lounge on the beach soaking in the sun. You may also wish to consider heading northeast to the charming village of Nordeste, where you can indulge in local cuisine and purchase souvenirs.
