By Dana Perkiss

If you're looking for a restful and rejuvenating holiday with stunning scenery, then Iceland should be on your list. Boasting tons of geothermal spas and hot springs, Iceland is home to some of the top wellness facilities in the world – plus amazing glaciers, volcanic beaches, and incredible food.

Need more reasons to holiday in Iceland? Here are some of the best wellness activities in Iceland!

The Blue Lagoon

You may have heard of this famous destination in Iceland, but there's nothing like experiencing the Blue Lagoon in person. Take a dip in the lagoon's 39 °C pastel blue water, filled with silica which helps cleanse your skin and acts as an anti-inflammatory. After soaking in the warm water with a silica mud mask, you can relax in the sauna & steam room or quench your thirst at the in-water bar.

Mývatn Nature Baths

Located on the northern part of Iceland is the gorgeous Mývatn Nature Baths, which is filled with hot tubs, steam-baths, a delicious restaurant, swim-up bar, and a children's pool. Get your fill of relaxation in the Nature Baths, and then cool down in the stunning lagoon found in the center. Averaging at about 38 °C, the lagoon is perfectly warm and filled with rich minerals, including sulfur – a healthy mineral with is known to alleviate skin, respiratory, and musculoskeletal afflictions. After visiting the Mývatn Nature Baths, there's no doubt that your body (and soul) will feel completely cleansed.

Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon

On the Southeast part of Iceland you'll find the magical Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, which is well-known for being Iceland's deepest lake. While relaxing here, you'll be able to marvel at magnificent icebergs, seals swimming near the shore, and tons of birds flying around. One of the greatest things about this lagoon is that it's just a short walk away from Diamond Beach, one of the best beaches in Iceland. It's known for its black sand and views of icebergs fading into the Atlantic Ocean, making it a must-visit beach on your Iceland holiday.

Fun Fact: Jökulsárlón is a major filming location in Iceland, with many films like “Tomb Raider” and the James Bond films “Die Another Day” and “A View to a Kill” having been filmed there.

Friðheimar

Get away to the Icelandic countryside by visiting Friðheimar, where you can experience Iceland in a completely different light. Come face-to-face with some of the most unique horses in the world or watch the Friðheimar Horse Show, where you can visit the stables and meet some of the horses. There's a vast geothermal greenhouse where guests can learn more about horticulture and be immersed in plants, as well as a restaurant which features Friðheimar's famed Icelandic tomatoes. Still wanting a spa day? No worries, because iconic attractions like the Laugarvatn Fontana Spa and Geysir Hot Springs are a short distance from Friðheimar!

Laugarvatn Fontana Spa

Found along the popular route in Iceland, the Golden Circle, the Laugarvatn Fontana Spa features saunas, steam rooms, geothermal pools connected to outdoor mineral baths, and access to a black sand beach and Lake Laugarvatn. Take a dip in the refreshingly cold lake after the hot pools, and trust us, you'll understand why Iceland is known as the Land of Ice and Fire! One of the best parts about Laugarvatn Fontana is its geothermal rye bread bakery, where you can indulge in delicious bread all year long.

Sky Lagoon

Located near downtown Reykjavik, the Sky Lagoon is new geothermal lagoon in Iceland where you can enjoy an authentic Icelandic bath experience. There are tons of therapeutic treatments to partake in at this oceanside, thermal spa – including a geothermal lagoon, glacier-fresh pool, saunas, and the Sky Lagoon’s famous Sky Body Scrub. There are also three unique dining experiences here: the Lagoon Bar which serves fresh Icelandic drinks in the lagoon, the Sky Café where guests can enjoy light meals, and the Smakk Bar which serves unique Icelandic cuisine.
