Just off the coast of the Mediterranean Sea (near North Africa and Sicily), Malta is comprised of delightful beaches, dazzling sunsets, antique fortresses, megalithic temples, and much more! Get acquainted with your home base of Valletta after settling in at your hotel. Walk the city, grab a pastizzi or two, and let your worries be washed away in the fresh seaside wind.
Check-in - La Falconeria
Unwind in the chic La Falconeria in the Valletta region of Malta. With beautiful views, a subterranean pool, an on-site bar, and a gym the guests are welcome to use. Those staying with the Falconeria have access to the 24-hour front desk and car rentals provided by the hotel.
Rooms are comfortable and stylish, some with views of either the city or the sea. They feature a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a safe, ironing facilities, coffee or tea making facilities, a hair dryer, and private bathrooms complete with toiletries, slippers, and bathrobes. The National Museum of Fine Arts and the Upper Barrakka Gardens is just 1,300 feet from the hotel, and the Malta International Airport is a little over 3 miles away.
Day 2. Valletta
Your first day on holiday in
Malta calls for more exploration of Valletta. The capital city is
popular for palaces, churches, and museums all intricately designed in
Maltese-Baroque architecture. Discover the highlights of this wondrous
city with your included tour!
Valletta City Tour (half-day)
Discover the beauty and charm of the fortified city built by the Knights of St. John in 1566 - the capital of Malta, Valletta. The Order of St. John ruled over the islands for 268 years and left a unique cultural legacy of which Valletta is the prime example. Take in the beautiful views over the Grand Harbor from the Upper Barrakka Gardens before heading out to visit St. John's Co-Cathedral. Admire Flemish tapestries, the church museum, Caravaggio masterpieces in the Oratory, and the beautiful marble inlaid floors.
Going down Republic Street, walk past the Grand Master's Palace and the recently restored St. George's Square before enjoying an audio-visual show of Malta's history.
Day 3. Valletta
Get ready for another adventure,
as today, you'll head off towards the temples of Malta to take a walk
back in time by seeing these historic monuments in the center of the
island. From the hilltops overlooking the sea to the complex underground
systems used to bury the dead and for worship, these wondrous creations
are truly remarkable.
Megalithic Temples of Malta & Hypogeum Tour (full day)
The prehistoric temples of Malta are collectively inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, with seven sets of temples in all. On this tour, you will visit the following sites: Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples. These temples are located on a hilltop overlooking the sea in the Southern Part of the island. The temples date back to around 3600 – 3200 BC and are inscribed as part of the “Megalithic Temples of Malta” in the World Heritage List.
Day 4. Valletta
Next stop: Gozo. Designated just
north of the main island, Gozo is a compilation of 21 different
islands. Bound together not only by location but by their sheer beauty,
the islands of Gozo are a must-see. You'll find Ggantija Temple ruins
scattered throughout the islands, as well as plenty of rural hiking and
biking paths.
Gozo Tour including lunch (full-day)
Take a 20-minute ferry ride to Malta's sister island, Gozo. While both islands are similar in history, Gozo has more hills and has rolling green landscapes in its favor. During this excursion, visit the site where the Azure Window once stood before its collapse at Dwejra. Fans of the wildly popular show, Game of Thrones, will enjoy a tour of the location where the scene of Daenerys and Drogo's wedding was shot in the first season. The area was transformed for the screen by covering the ground in mesh and covering it with sand to create a desert-like environment.
After the stop, you'll also see the citadel in Victoria, the bay of Xlendi, and more. You'll also have free time for shopping - Gozo is renown for its woolen goods and handmade lace.
Day 5. Valletta
Haven't gotten the chance to
relax at a beach in Malta yet? Plan to visit one of the nearby beaches
in Valletta to lounge under the sun or swim in the bright blue waters.
Not feeling the beach vibe? Wake up early to take a day trip to the
Hal-Saflieni Hypogeum. This mesmerising and complex subterranean
sanctuary (and necropolis!) is one of the best examples of the many
well-preserved Maltese temples.
Day 6. Valletta
It's your last full day on
holiday in Malta, so be sure to cross everything off your bucket list.
Consider renting a boat to explore other islands surrounding the
archipelago. Comino is a good place to start, as its stunning beaches
and pristine gardens are great if you want to relax out in nature.
Alternatively, visit some of the museums or shopping districts to grab a
souvenir so you can take home a piece of Malta with you.
Day 7. Depart Malta
Wave goodbye to Malta, the holiday has now ended. Head out of your accommodations and start thinking about your next adventure!
